Our Story
Every guest that has walked through our door has had a slew of questions about how the heck we arrived at the Farmhouse Inn for our adventure as Innkeepers. The truth is we don’t really have a great answer, but we’re here and we love it! The truth is, we claim temporary insanity.
Okay, here’s the real story….
Andrea, a weary schoolteacher and administrator, tired of the
bureaucracy of the Ontario school system, retired 2001. Realizing that she was far too young to slow down, she took
a position on the National Council of an International Development and Aid Agency. Although a volunteer, the role was a full-time job that had her traveling across Southern Ontario educating about social justice. Her role even took her to Guatemala and Bolivia. In December 2004, when
her work was slowing down for the Christmas break,
Andrea found herself in front of her computer with nothing to do. Using her favourite tool, Google, she came across a Bed and Breakfast for sale in Nova Scotia. Knowing that the family was visiting Truro for Christmas, she made an appointment to see the Farmhouse Inn while they were there.
Andrea and her family came to see it, between the snow storms.
Julie, trying to find a career she actually enjoyed, was living in Ottawa. While managing a travel agency she was planning her next traveling adventure. (She had no idea it would be to Nova Scotia). Andrea knew that Julie’s experience working in resorts, restaurants and the travel industry would someday prove valuable, so she was recruited to join the adventure. After a whirlwind of telephone calls, emails and calculations, the mission was deployed. Andrea and Julie packed up their respective Honda Civics and drove to
their new home on the East Coast and launched themselves into their new lives as Innkeepers.
